Don't let the cast fool you. This isn't Lohengrin or Salome. This is Tosca. Leonie Rysanek, James King and Eberhard Waechter will probably go down in history as great exponents of German music, but this recording makes it clear that they had a wonderful sense for Italian music. Leonie Rysanek is wild as Tosca. She is well paired with the cool and calculated Scarpia of Eberhard Waechter. James King sings with suavity and brilliant high notes. The sound is fair.
