This recording proves that you can get great Mozart singing from singers with plus sized voices.  Pilar Lorengar's voice is ideal as Fiordiligi.  Her "Come scoglio" is nothing short of miraculous.  The coloratura is flawless, the high C is spot on and most importantly it has a dramatic edge that makes it very exciting.  Probably the greatest test of a singers' abilities is if they can alternate Wagner and Mozart and in this Josephine Veasey gets an A+.  Like Lorengar, she is able to negotiate the line without sacrificing the opulence of her voice.  Lucia Popp exudes charm as Despina and although her voice may not be as big as the other women she holds her own very well.  Sir Georg Solti leads a spirited and for the most part straight forward performance.  It is also worth mentioning that this performance is almost completely uncut.  The sound is excellent.  As a bonus I have included excerpt from Don Giovanni and Die Zauberflöte with Pilar Lorengar.
